Elly Thomas is a pharmacist partner of Ashgrove Surgery in Pontypridd with 14 years’ experience as a practice pharmacist supplementary & independent prescriber and seven years’ experience as a prescribing adviser for Cwm Taf Health Board. 

Prior to that she had extensive experience of community pharmacy undertaking several roles for Lloyds Pharmacy including branch manager and working with the teacher practitioner in Cardiff University.

She has some experience in education having been an honorary lecture for Cardiff University and has undertaken teaching, marking and tutoring over the years from undergraduate to Independent Prescribing level. 

She has a strong interest in the education and training of the primary care workforce and is one of the tutors for HEIW’s GP pharmacist training programme which helps support pharmacists moving into primary care from other sectors. 

She has supported second year and fourth year pharmacy undergraduates in practice placements and is signed up as a designated supervisor to the multi-sector foundation (was Pre-Reg) training.

Elly is an advocate of lifelong learning and pharmacists’ essential role in patient safety. She is keen to raise the profile of the profession in their existing and expanding roles.
