What activities are classed as CPD

There are a huge number of possibilities, but here are a few examples:

Work based learning:

• practice-based learning including feedback from patients and the public;

• analysis and review of critical incidents;

• dealing with problems / situations in the workplace or elsewhere (including incidents outside your professional responsibility from which you learn something that is applicable to them)

• projects and professional audits

• research


Self-directed learning:

• on-line studies, reading, writing and undertaking research

• learning with others including peer reviews

• professional networking


Formal education and learning (CE):

• Acquiring knowledge, skills and professionalism from attending conferences and educational and practical courses


Others:

• participating in group activities e.g. specialist groups, virtual networks, LPFs, staff meetings, staff training, working groups, involvement in professional body activities and events 

• preparation for a presentation or teaching others including mentoring, coaching or supervising

• work shadowing, job rotation, secondment to another department and / or role

• reflective practice and keeping a personal record of progress

• interactions with other healthcare professionals

• delivering lectures, writing publications and the design and delivery of training courses
