After a successful tour in 2016, we’ve once again teamed up with specialist tour operator Jon Baines Tours, who are organising a two-week tour examining the history of pharmaceutical science in China. The tour will be led by Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Dr Stuart Anderson FRPharmS, and will guide you through the long history of pharmacy and herbal medicine in China.

The tour will take you on a historical journey from China’s traditional pharmacies and herbalists to the modern day, where traditional pharmacy combines very effectively with Western medicine. You will visit the Traditional Chinese Medicine University and Museum in Shanghai, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Tong Reng Tang, a pharmacy founded in 1669 that prescribes both Western and Chinese medicine and the Medical History Museum in Beijing. Gain fascinating insight into China’s traditional and contemporary culture and society along the way as you visit a great cross section of this extraordinary country.

Starting in China's great imperial city, Beijing, travel to the ancient Silk Road crossroads of Xian to see the magnificent Terracotta Warriors. Travel to Guilin and Yangshuo in tranquil Guangxi Province with its spectacular mountain landscapes, continue to the 2,500-year old water town of Suzhou - famed for its gardens, canals and silk - and finish in China's most glamorous and cutting edge city, Shanghai.

There are a limited number of spaces on this tour for RPS members. To book your place or find out more:
