About us
What makes us strong?
Thousands of pharmacists speaking as one.
We believe in providing a clear, strong voice for the profession. A voice made up of all our members. A voice that can make a difference.
We're proud to lead the profession.
We're the only body that representa the entire profession and we use that unique position to deliver change on the issues that really matter to you.
Influencing policy development and advocacy – representing your views
Our aim is to ensure that pharmacy has a strong, clear voice that is heard and listened to by governments, the General Pharmaceutical Council, other health professions, the media and the public. We represent the views of practising pharmacists to the General Pharmaceutical Council – making sure that regulation is fair and appropriate.
Your views are used to develop pharmacy and healthcare policy by influencing politicians and increasing the profile of pharmacists in the media. We work with you to understand the issues you are facing, and represent these views to policymakers and stakeholders to make change happen.
We work tirelessly to increase the recognition of the role of pharmacists in healthcare amongst policymakers, politicians and, through the media, the public.
Over the past year we have been campaigning on the issues of workplace pressure and the decriminalisation of single dispensing errors. We have made significant progress in these areas, but there is still work to do and we will continue to represent your professional interests at the highest levels.
You can make your voice heard, by providing input into the latest consultations or giving us your feedback via our quarterly member survey to help shape the development of your profession.
of your profession.
National Pharmacy Boards
With offices in London, Edinburgh and Cardiff our national boards are ideally placed to influence national governments and deliver the change that you have asked for. As thought leaders, they will make our vision for the profession a reality. Drawing on the resources of the Society and working in partnership with other stakeholders the boards will lobby for any legislative changes or support required to deliver our vision, such as pharmacists taking on a greater prescribing role.
Expert advisory panels
Our expert advisory panels will lead thinking in specific areas, helping us to shape and influence the national and international agenda.
Our Science and Research Panel will offer a united voice on the pharmaceutical science agenda on the national and international stage, scientific strategy (horizon scanning, intelligence gathering, planning), scientific assessment and review, and leadership and advocacy. It will serve as the core of a database of leading scientists and researchers, helping to build a broad community that reflects a wide range of perspectives.
Working with expert groups to respond to consultations
It’s important that pharmacy has a strong, clear voice when responding to consultations which affect the profession. This will have a much more powerful effect than a number of similar responses from various organisations. That’s why we’re working with expert groups to provide a coordinated response to any consultations. By responding in a unified, coordinated manner, we are much more likely to achieve positive results for the profession.
Leading the development of the profession
Strong leadership is about having a clear vision of where the profession should be heading and the passion and drive to take it there. We have been working with the profession to develop this vision and have a proven track record in delivery. Previous work showed that the profession wanted to prescribe in a wide range of circumstances. Such changes needed the support of government to change the law, the support of doctors and the profession to have further developed its clinical role.
Pharmacist prescribing was achieved thanks to the efforts of many people both within and outside the profession. Strategic lobbying built successful alliances with other healthcare professions and politicians.
We will continue to work with you and the wider profession to deliver our vision for the profession.
