What's happening
No Smoking Day campaign
No Smoking Day campaign took part on 9 March this year.
The campaign aims to help smokers stop smoking by raising awareness, increasing motivation and by encouraging smokers to stop on a specific date.
In aid of the day a network of local organisers run local events and activities in a supportive environment throughout UK.
No Smoking Day is a brilliant opportunity for pharmacists to remind the public and local community that they are there to provide help and support to anyone thinking about stopping smoking and start a healthier and wealthier life.
Visiting a local pharmacy for help and advice on how to stop smoking significantly increases the chances of success.
No Smoking Day campaign aims to:
• Encourage and assist smokers who want to quit
• Create awareness of the campaign
• Involve as many people as possible
• Help achieve national and local health targets

Laura Wilson, from Morrisons Pharmacy, Kilmarnock, says:
‘Last year was the first time we took part in No Smoking Day and it proved a huge success. We had been working with Fresh Air-shire and felt that it would be a good day to promote that service. We organised a stand at the front door full of information and advice for smokers. We provided advice on the national no smoking scheme, the fresh air-shire scheme and the Champix clinic that runs in-store. We managed to sign up 12 people on the day and saw an increase in the numbers coming to Pharmacy after No Smoking Day to access both services. It was an enjoyable day and as we had arranged for a few of the team to come to man the stand it gave us the chance to interact with customers without having to worry about prescriptions.’
The Morrisons Pharmacy team won the No Smoking Day Organiser of the Year Awards - Best use of Pharmacy setting category in 2010.
