Benefits for industrial pharmacists
We recognise the importance of industry and the contribution you make to medicines discovery, delivery and use across patients and populations. Our position as the only body that represents all sectors of the profession allows us to promote all that is possible within pharmacy to Governments, other health professionals and the general public.
Here are just some of the ways we’ve been working to support you over the past year:
• New Pharmaceutical Scientist membership category
The introduction of this new category opened up membership to many of your colleagues and recognised the contribution that pharmaceutical scientists make to the profession.
• Promoting excellence in pharmaceutical science and research, presenting pharmacy as an evidence-based scientific profession
Through the Pharmaceutical Scientist Expert Advisory Panel we’re engaging with the experts. We’re also engaging with the IPF and their valuable role across GB and Europe. We have increased the coverage of pharmacy within the media and have provided regular comment throughout the year on medicines related stories, providing the evidence behind the headlines.
• Support to become eligible for QP roles
In 2011 we ran our successful QP symposium and our Support service provides advice and support on becoming eligible for QP roles.
• Virtual networks and forums
We’ve invigorated our forums over the past year with a dedicated forum for Industrial pharmacists as well as our science and research network.
• Map of evidence
We launched our map of evidence, providing you with a forum to share your evidence as well as learning from the experiences of others within the field.
• Leadership Competency Framework
The LCF was launched to support the development of leaders at all career stages. It is designed to be read and used in conjunction with any learning and development activity and performance assessment tools used by your employer.
Looking ahead to 2012 we will continue to support you in your role. Here are some of the key priorities we are working on:
• Roadmap for science
We’ll be launching our roadmap for science, highlighting the central scientific issues we believe pharmacy will face in the next 5 to 20 years.
• Modernising Pharmacy Careers
We’re continuing to work with MPC to ensure there is a clear career pathway for pharmacists, with support for foundation and early years as well as recognition of advancement through to consultant level.
• Accreditation service
We will continue to develop and grow our accreditation service, providing a stamp of recognition for materials which meet our professional development standards.
• Workforce development
We’ll be taking a leadership role around workforce development, skill mix and capacity planning.
As well as all this you’ll continue to receive your regular copy of the Pharmaceutical Journal, as well as getting access to all our online resources, such as CPD support and support for clinical audit. If you subscribe to it, you’ll also receive your regular copy of Clinical Pharmacist.
Your membership.
Your professional body.
To ensure that industrial pharmacy is appropriately represented in the professional body, we need industrial pharmacists to renew their membership. We can only do this with your continued support.
