What we're working on
Safe and secure handling of medicines: A team approach
The Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines: a team approach was published in 2005 and is essential good practice guidance that is widely used in hospital and across other settings. The guidance, which underpins medicines governance processes in organisations across all Great Britain member nations, is now significantly out of date.
We're currently reviewing and updating this guidance. A small task and finish group has been established from members of the RPS Hospital Expert Advisory Group to provide oversight for this work. We are also seeking engagement across other groups and sectors in the profession.
This is a multidisciplinary piece of work, and so we are engaging with a wide range of stakeholders across Great Britain, including regulators, royal colleges/professional bodies, expert and specialist groups. We will also be seeking multidisciplinary endorsement. A multidisciplinary advisory group will engage across professions and to ensure that the relevant expertise informs the revision of the guidance.
We anticipate that the project will take approximately 12 months to complete and we will update this page as the work progresses. Once the revision has been completed, the draft will be posted on the RPS website for open comment.
If you want to know more detail about the project, are interested in joining the advisory group or if you have suggestions for how the guidance could be promoted once published, please contact Katie Perkins at firstname.lastname@example.org.
