Fiona Jones MPharmS MFRPSII

Welsh Pharmacy Board

Community sector

Fiona  was elected onto the Welsh Pharmacy Board in 2015, having a background in  both Community Pharmacy and Primary Care.

Fiona’s current role is Clinical lead pharmacist for the central area of North Wales under Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board, with the responsibility of leading workforce development and education for the changing roles of pharmacists within Primary Care.

Her passion is to see a better integration of pharmacists into multidisciplinary and community teams and her work on a domiciliary support and referral service for social workers and memory clinics won an Outstanding Achievement award in 2015 and in 2016 achieved finalist position at the National NHS Wales awards.

As a qualified independent prescriber since 2007, Fiona has led chronic conditions clinics in hypertension and cardiovascular disease and clinical medication reviews for the elderly, with a keen interest in poly-pharmacy and de-prescribing.

In 2016 Fiona qualified with a post graduate certificate in medical education and is now in the process of utilising this to develop multi-disciplinary teaching sessions using simulation techniques.

RPS Faculty recognition was achieved in 2015 at Advanced Stage Two (MFRPSII ) and Fiona continues to encourage other pharmacists to enrol and build their portfolio, mentoring and supporting them on their Faculty journey.

Her roles with the board have included meeting assembly members to help them understand the varying roles and responsibilities of pharmacists across sectors, as a consultee in the production of the revised National Prescribing Competency Framework, supporting the annual Medicines Safety Conference and leading a workshop as well as supporting the development of a knowledge and skills toolkit for practice pharmacist competencies.

Fiona enjoys her leisure time walking her dog, eating out and a selection of arts and craft activities.
