Ahead of the General Election on 12 December, we have teamed up with the National Pharmacy Association and the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee to publish a manifesto for community pharmacy.
The manifesto calls for support and investment from Government to enable community pharmacy to do more to:
- Take pressure off GPs and hospitals.
- Make access to NHS care more convenient.
- Help people with long term conditions.
- Tackle medicines waste and save the NHS money.
- Help vulnerable people in deprived communities and reduce health inequalities.
- Be the front door to health.
- Help people to stay healthy and reduce the burden of disease on our population and health services.

You can play an important role for the profession by engaging with candidates, asking them for support or inviting them to see how a local pharmacy works.
Use the hashtag #VotePharmacy on social media to get involved during the election campaign.
Sandra Gidley, President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, said:
‘This is a crucial time for the profession and the NHS, and with continued pressures across the health service, it’s right that the next government commits to fair funding for community pharmacy so that patients can access the help and support they need.
We welcome pledges made by political parties to invest in the health service and the workforce to support the nation’s health.
Community pharmacy can play a key role in prevention and public health and it is vital that these funding promises are met in reality.’
