Our re-shaped Executive Team

Our final executive team structure has now been decided to deliver the five-year RPS Strategy determined by the Assembly.

While the team's structure is an operational matter, the Assembly, including Officers of the Society and Chairs of the three National Pharmacy Boards, have all been involved in discussions that have led to the creation of this structure.

The RPS Strategy sets out our scope of influence, membership, role and mandate, as well as ensuring our viability & sustainability. Underpinning the overarching strategy are further supporting strategies for education, membership and publishing.

We are committed to championing the profession and want to strengthen our membership and education propositions, which are inextricably linked.

Experience demonstrates that we must be even more joined up in the work that we do to optimise delivery of our strategic aims. A single executive leadership position will allow us to better align our resources and ensure a more unified approach that benefits the profession.

We are therefore bringing the two functions of education and membership together and will now recruit to the single, senior leadership role of Chief Education and Membership Officer.

This post will be responsible for the development and implementation of our Education and Membership strategies, providing an integrated and expanded educational and professional development offer and increasing the organisation’s appeal and relevance to an ever wider and more diverse audience.

We are also creating four Interim Associate Director roles, two for education, and one each for membership and professional support activities respectively.

In addition, we will continue to expand our education team, creating two permanent roles to support our important work in Assessment and Credentialing, following the success of two secondments from the NHS/HEE, which have recently come to their natural end. We will also be making a further role in education contract and programme management permanent.

This organisational design underpins our stated commitment to the role RPS has in education and in supporting our members and registrants, at whatever their career stage. Nothing could be more important to us than getting this right and supporting the profession. We are fully committed to fulfilling the obligations of our Royal Charter.

Recruitment for the CEMO role commences today and Saxton Bampfylde is acting as employment agency advisor to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Candidates can apply for this role at www.saxbam.com/appointments using code AXPC.

The closing date for applications is 5th May 2022.

As well as the Chief Executive Officer, other Executive Director positions in the new structure are Chief Operating Officer, Chief Technology Officer (recently announced) and Managing Director of Pharmaceutical Press/Deputy CEO (responsible for publishing activities and providing support to the CEO on operational delivery).
