Pharmacists celebrated in the home of pharmacy in Scotland

Pharmacists across Scotland were celebrated this week for their distinction in the practice of pharmacy by Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Scotland, the professional leadership body for pharmacists.

Three pharmacists were given formal recognition for their services to the pharmacy profession, through the awarding of new RPS Fellowships.

The Scottish recipients were:

  • Paul Forsyth
  • Alasdair MacIntryre
  • Peter Mulholland

The new Fellows were presented with their certificates at a celebration and networking evening at the home of pharmacy in Scotland, RPS Scotland’s building on Melville Street, Edinburgh.

The event was also an opportunity to welcome newly qualified pharmacists to the profession and to support their sense of professional belonging by providing networking opportunities at pharmacy’s Scottish home. The newly qualified pharmacists were formally welcomed by RPS Scotland Director, Clare Morrison and General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Scotland Director, Laura Fulton.

In a night of celebrations, newly credentialed consultant pharmacist Alan Timmins was formally congratulated by Beth Ward, RPS Associate Director of Education, and previous Scottish Pharmacy Board members were thanked for their service.

The new Fellows join twenty-four colleagues across Great Britain who were announced as having been awarded RPS Fellowships earlier this week, including another pharmacist in Scotland, Findlay Hickey. Findlay’s fellowship will be celebrated in RPS Scotland’s 2023 annual celebration event.

Commenting on the evening’s celebration, Clare Morrison, Director for Scotland at RPS said:

“It was an absolute pleasure to welcome pharmacists to our building in Edinburgh, the home of pharmacy in Scotland. The mood was so vibrant as people came together to celebrate and to network.

“There is brilliant work being achieved by pharmacy teams across the whole of Scotland right now, and everyone being celebrated has contributed immensely to this.

“I was thrilled to be able to welcome newly qualified pharmacists to our event, and to welcome them to our profession.  This year, we published Pharmacy 2030, our new professional vision for the future of pharmacy in Scotland and it’s so exciting to see newly qualified pharmacists coming though who will be working towards delivering the improved patient outcomes, safety and experience set out in our vision.”
