Welsh Board Chair Suzanne Scott-Thomas receives Special Recognition Award at 2019 Welsh Pharmacy Awards

RPS is pleased to announce that Suzanne Scott-Thomas is the winner of the 2019 Special Recognition Award. She was presented with the award at the 12th Welsh Pharmacy Awards ceremony last week  (Thursday 23nd May) at the Vale Resort, Newport.

The Special Recognition Award provides an opportunity to honour someone who has devoted his or her life to pharmacy. Suzanne, Chair of the Welsh Pharmacy Board of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in Wales, has received this award for her significant contribution to the pharmacy profession.
Suzanne graduated from the Welsh School of Pharmacy in 1981, and her career has been based in the valleys of South Wales. She worked her way up the promotional ladder at Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil) culminating in becoming  the Chief Pharmacist in 2009. Having achieved the most senior post at PCH she became more active on the All Wales scene, starting with the the All Wales Chief Pharmacists Committee. Her vision for, and delivery of, developed community pharmacy services were rewarded when she was appointed as clinical director for medicines management for Cwm Taf UHB in 2016.

She has been an active  member of her local RPS throughout her career, and in 2013 she also became a member of the RPS Wales National Pharmacy Board. Her energies and commitments to this role were soon recognised and she became the chair of the Board in 2015.

Mair Davies, Director for RPS Wales, has congratulated Suzanne on her award: ‘This award is very well deserved. Suzanne is dedicated to the pharmacy profession, and has worked tirelessly on its behalf for many years. She is an inspirational chair, a true leader who has engaged with, and represented the RPS at local and National level, and because of her leadership abilities her views and opinions are sought on issues of national relevance by many organisations  in Wales and across Great Britain. She should be proud of what she has achieved, particularly in the areas of leadership and practice innovation.’

Suzanne said of receiving the award: 'I am very surprised but very humbled and proud to be recognised by my peers in the pharmacy profession. Working with fantastic teams in RPS Wales, Cwm Taf Morganwg Health Board and Chief Pharmacists in Wales is a pleasure, as there is a positive vision of how pharmacy can develop for the better, amazing can-do attitudes to deliver and we all work well together in collaboration across all sectors.'

'I would like to thank The Welsh Pharmacy awards for a superb evening where we can celebrate the pharmacy profession's excellent contribution to improving patient care in Wales. I would also like to add my special thank you to Mair Davies, Director of RPS Wales for her significant support to me and her very kind words.'
