Marking the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

We're today marking the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The event happens every year on the day that police in Sharpeville, South Africa, opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid "pass laws" in 1960.

This year focuses on “voices for action against racism”, recognising the contribution of those who stand up against racial discrimination and the challenges they face. It also highlights the importance of strengthening meaningful and safe public participation and representation.

We’ve already committed to changing attitudes around race in pharmacy, and removing any race-related barriers to career progression.

Our inclusion and diversity pages on race show what we’re doing to help change attitudes, provides useful webinars to challenge attitudes, highlights our resource on race microaggressions and includes blogs on lived experience. Take a look to see what you can do, and how we can all - together - break barriers in pharmacy.

You can also sign our Pledge to demonstrate your support for a profession that's inclusive, celebrates diversity, creates a culture of belonging, and supports pharmacy teams’ health and wellbeing.
