RPS considers the implications of test, track and trace

Test, track and trace services are being explored and implemented across GB to help in the fight against COVID19.  The services are intended to ensure that anyone who develops symptoms of COVID-19 can quickly be tested to find out if they have the virus. The services will also enhance public health surveillance and response systems with the aim of preventing further infection and tracking the virus as lockdown restrictions are eased.

We are aware that there are concerns about the potential implications around pharmacy teams having to self-isolate if they have been in contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19.  We are working with Governments across England, Scotland and Wales to ensure the safety of pharmacy teams and to reduce any unintended impact on practice and patient care.

We continue to advocate on your behalf on a number of other key issues. Ensuring pharmacy teams have access to COVID-19 testing, including antigen and antibody testing once approved for use, continues to be a priority and will be essential alongside the relevant test, track and trace service.
