RPS welcomes ability for pharmacists to be prescribing supervisors

RPS is developing a competency framework for Designated Prescribing Practitioners/Prescribing Supervisors in response to upcoming regulatory changes on training non-medical prescribers. This framework will help to ensure those taking on this role have the necessary skills and experience.

RPS has long championed the use of pharmacists as prescribing supervisors and we welcome the opportunity for different prescribing professions to bring their expertise to the development of future prescribers. This will improve prescribing opportunities for the wider workforce, and also support Designated Medical Practitioners by distributing the supervision workload. Multidisciplinary training remains central, using the expert skills of each profession to develop prescribers and deliver high quality patient care.
