RPS welcomes extra BAME vaccine data collection

Following NHS England’s agreement yesterday that it would expand its ethnicity data collection for people receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, Chair of RPS in England Claire Anderson said:

“The evidence of the impact of COVID-19 on Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities has been profound.

“We fully support NHS England’s move to expand data collection on ethnicity and ensure it’s recorded as part of the vaccination process through Pinnacle, as well as being on the GP record.

“The data collected will help understanding of the rates of uptake across different populations. This in turn will enable local public health services to recognise which communities are less well protected through vaccination and to consider how to address this. The data may also well provide reassurance to the wider population as across the country overall huge numbers of people are coming forward for vaccination.”
