To coincide with this year’s World Antibiotic Awareness Week, and as part of the RPS ongoing campaign to tackle antibiotic resistance, the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Portal has been given a major makeover!
The AMS Portal is a hub that signposts to key resources, to support pharmacy practice within GB and to promote learning about antimicrobial stewardship and antibiotic resistance. As well as information on upcoming events, campaigns and awareness days the resources includes patient facing materials and GB governmental and regulatory advice. It also features international AMS recommendations.
Earlier this year we called on all pharmacists to play a greater role in the development of national and local action plans for antimicrobial stewardship, building on examples of good practice around the country.
The AMS Portal is there to help you, in addition to our Quick Reference Guide on AMS, policy document and our new short video on antimicrobial resistance which shows how different sectors of the profession can make a difference.
These resources set out our ambitions to see pharmacist leadership in AMS strengthened in order to contribute to wider efforts in meeting the challenge set by the UK Government of reducing inappropriate antibiotic prescribing by 50% by 2020.
We aim to continuously develop the AMS Portal to be accessible across all healthcare professions, encouraging a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach for improvement of antimicrobial use.
