Class 2 medicines recall: St Johns Wort tablets

08 Feb 2016

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a class 2 medicines recall (action within 48 hours) at patient, pharmacy and retail level for specific batches of St John’s Wort tablets (Asda, St John’s Wort, HRI Good Mood and Superdrug St John’s Wort tablets).  This is due to testing to have shown the presence of a toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) above the threshold recommended by the Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC).

For further information on this alert including affected batches and action to be taken by pharmacy and patients see the MHRA medical safety alert and press release.
