Mandatory reporting of female genital mutilation

03 Nov 2015

Legislation came into place on 31 October 2015, which requires healthcare professionals to alert the police if they treat a girl under 18 who has had female genital mutilation (FGM). The Department of Health has produced resources to help healthcare staff to deal with cases of FGM. The resources include guidance for professionals, a poster for NHS organisations to publicise their duty to their staff, training slides, video interviews with healthcare professionals and a leaflet for staff to give to patients to explain their new duty.
