RPS accredits first Foundation Training Provider

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) is delighted to announce that Rowlands Pharmacy has been accredited as an RPS Foundation Training Provider, the first to be awarded this status.

Committed to continuing the education and development of its pharmacists, Rowlands invests heavily in partnership working with Schools of Pharmacy across Great Britain, and has now launched the Rowlands Foundation programme for pharmacists entering the profession and during their early career. It is this programme that has been recognised and accredited by the RPS as a high standard provision of training and support for Foundation pharmacists in the community.
August 2015 saw the first cohort of 14 Rowlands pharmacists starting their Foundation Programme.
RPS Director of Professional Development and Support Dr Catherine Duggan said: “Accrediting Rowlands Pharmacy as an RPS Foundation Training Provider shows we recognise their commitment to excellence which in turn will assure pharmacists that Rowlands’ training meets the highest standards and aligns to the Foundation Pharmacy Framework. This accreditation also further recognises Rowlands’ commitment to improving patient care and the public’s health by further developing its pharmacists. We look forward to accrediting more RPS Foundation Training Providers in the future.”
Kenny Black, Managing Director of Rowlands Pharmacy said: “As a business we are always keen to invest in education and development, and partnership working is key to the success of any programmes we develop and deliver. We believe the RPS vision of pharmacists being ‘the healthcare professional entrusted by patients to take care of their every pharmaceutical need’ aligns with Rowlands ethos of investing in our pharmacists and their teams to enable them to provide sustainable health and wellbeing services at the heart of their local community.
“The RPS Foundation Pharmacy Framework provides a structured approach to allow pharmacists during their early years to develop their competence in their role and through working with their teams to deliver excellent services to our Rowlands patients. Our Learning and Development team have a wealth of experience in delivering focused training to support our pharmacy managers, so we see Foundation Training as the next stage in equipping and enabling our early years pharmacists for their professional role in their local community”.
Sandra Hutchinson, Learning and Development Manager at Rowlands Pharmacy added: “To ensure that we have a robust programme in place, we have invested in partnership working with our Foundation pharmacists through face to face development sessions, one to one support and peer support from our more experienced pharmacy managers and our Area managers. Through a blended learning approach, we will be utilising the online RPS tools, our own e-learning platform for accessible learning and educational discussion forums, RGU School of Pharmacy & Life Science for research support as well as building confidence in consultation skills through links with CPPE”.
