RPS England talks to BBC's Look North about reimbursement

RPS Director for England Robbie Turner talks to BBC 1's Look North about problems with reimbursements for community pharmacists

The Drug Tariff sets the price for the majority of items prescribed on the NHS by GPs in order to incentivise efficient purchasing.

However, fluctuations in the prices of prescription medicines caused by shortages has led to margins being significantly squeezed and considerable falls in income for some pharmacy owners. BBC 1’s Look North visited pharmacists in Grimsby and Hull who have found themselves out of pocket as the price of some commonly prescribed medicines has risen but is not matched by reimbursement.

RPS Director for England Robbie Turner was interviewed on Look North and expressed concern: “These issues around funding could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for some pharmacies.”
