RPS speaks to BBC World Service about counterfeit medicines

The death of 23-year-old Sarah Houston, who died after taking the banned weight-loss drug DNP which she bought online, has highlighted the global issue of counterfeit medicines and the dangers of buying medicines on the internet. 

Research from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) reveals that in the past five years the agency has seized more than £34 million worth of medicine supplied illegally.

Research also suggests that purchasing prescription medicines online without a prescription is on the increase, with 50% of pharmacists stating they have customers who admit to buying medicine in this way.
