Following the launch of NHS England's Our Declaration: Person-centred care for long-term conditions, RPS English Pharmacy Board Chair Sandra Gidley said:
"The RPS fully supports this declaration. We think it is vital that people are at the centre of everything we do and are fully involved in decisions about their health and treatments. The majority of people with long term conditions will be taking at least one medicine, and those with several long term conditions will often be on at least 10 medicines. As outlined in our principles of medicines optimisation people must be involved in decisions about their medicines and this needs to be an ongoing conversation as people move along the changing spectrum of care. We have many examples of the difference pharmacists can make in supporting people with their medicines as well as providing support to self-care and lifestyle advice."
