RPS talks to media about antibiotic resistance
Chief Medical Officer Dame Sally Davies' warning about an 'impending antibiotic apocalypse' saw RPS members take to the airwaves to explain what antibiotic resistance means and what measures we need to tackle it.
Around 25,000 people across Europe die every year of drug resistant infections, when bacteria become resistant to the drugs used to treat them. Interviews covered the reality of the threat, the importance of using antibiotics less, taking them in the right way and developing new ones. Interviewees included RPS President Ash Soni on BBC's News Channel and LBC Radio, and GP pharmacist and RPS member Helen Kilminster on BBC1's Victoria Derbyshire programme.
