RPS tops category in UK Climate and Health Scorecard Initiative

sustainability in pharmacy

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) is proud to announce it has secured the top spot in the Climate and Health Scorecard Initiative category for health associations, colleges, societies and centres of education with premises and staff.

The initiatiative aims to encourage environmentally responsible practices within health organisations. Through a detailed questionnaire, it provides a framework for evaluating the contributions and commitments of participating organisations to reducing their environmental footprint and promoting sustainable practices.

RPS came top of its group through an assessment of its practices around internal operations, financial activities, education and training and advocacy efforts.

Professor Claire Anderson, President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, said:

“I’m delighted RPS has been recognised as a leader in addressing the issue of environmental impact. I’d like to thank our members for their time and enthusiasm in helping us develop our thinking and resources on the climate and ecological emergency and our whole staff team for their collective efforts in adopting sustainable practices and advocating for environmentally responsible policies.

“The process of completing the questionnaire was a useful way of evaluating what we have done and what we still have left to do. We recognise that like many other organisations, our journey towards sustainability is ongoing. We remain committed to continuous improvement and are determined to further enhance our environmental initiatives."

Professor Anderson is attending the meeting of the Council of the UK Health Alliance on Climate Change today where the full results of the Climate Score Card Initiative will be presented.
