Primary Care Expert Advisory Group

Lucy Higgins has worked in primary care for the majority of her 20 year career. Her passion for primary care started when writing her dissertation on Primary Care Roles for Pharmacists whilst obtaining her First Class Masters degree in Pharmacy at the University of Bath. 

She is now based on her home turf of South Wales. Lucy is employed by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board as both a Prescribing Advisor and a practice based pharmacist.

Lucy has an interest in medicines safety, leading projects on monitoring DMARDs during the pandemic, valproate safety, DOAC dosing, yellow cards and All Wales Medicines Strategy Group Patient Safety Indicators.

Lucy has a passion for nurturing pharmacy staff. She has been a mentor and tutor for various courses within the organisation supporting pre-registration technicians and pharmacists. Lucy teaches on the diabetes module of the MSC in Clinical Pharmacy for Cardiff University, using her experience as an Independent Prescriber in Type 2 Diabetes.

Lucy is thrilled to be appointed to the RPS Expert Advisory Group for Primary Care. She is keen to champion support for all primary care staff to thrive in their roles.
