Primary Care Expert Advisory Group

My current role is leading on the development and implementation of the new primary care clinical pharmacy service within GP practices across Ayrshire and Arran (A&A). The 2018 Scottish GMS contract outlines the requirements and the service is expected to be fully implemented throughout 2022/23.

I am also responsible for the development and delivery of the prescribing improvement plan, which ensures primary care continues to deliver quality and cost-effective prescribing.

My career in the NHS started in 2012 when I took up a role as a Prescribing Support Pharmacist and my main remit was to undertake prescribing improvement projects. The role changed in 2017 as we started to get more involved in GP practice work, then the launch of the new GMS contract started a new journey. I was also a Prescribing Advisor part of the week, and my remit was to deliver prescribing improvement work within the non-medicines budget. This required me to collaborate with lots of different health care professionals.

Previous to my NHS career I was a community pharmacist for 12 years working across Scotland, and during this time I immigrated to Canada for two years to work for a large multiple in the Ontario area.
