Get more involved in RPS decisions

by Claire Anderson FRPharmS, RPS President

RPS members recently told us how you feel about participation in and communications about decision-making in the RPS.

So, we want to make some changes to make sure your voice is heard, and that there is a two-way discussion about our decisions.

We are proposing that we use the model in the above graphic.

What does this mean for members?

It means that before we decide on an important issue, e.g., membership of an international pharmacy organisation, we will ask for your view. Before any decision is taken, your views and others will be shared with those at RPS tasked with making that decision.

Once that decision is made, we will tell you about it and explain the reason why. We’ll be keen to continue to listen, especially if evidence or circumstances change.

What decisions will you ask members about?

You wouldn’t expect us to consult you on everything of course, as your elected members are there to make sure you have a say through them. But we will ask you about substantial questions that affect the membership or the wider profession.

You can find out more about the ways the RPS is governed, and how decisions are made on behalf of our members, by watching our new governance animation.

When will the changes take place?

We will make these changes in time for our next Assembly meeting in March 2023.

What do you think about these changes?
