Course #6 - Women's Health

Women's Health

Are you confident advising patients on the difference between normal and abnormal vaginal discharge? 

The NHS CPCS Clinical Training module in Women’s Health will teach you how to assess and manage patients presenting with menstrual pain, and other common women’s health conditions such as thrush and cystitis.

You will learn about the female anatomy and hormonal cycle, and how to appropriately undertake a women’s health consultation.

You'll also learn how to spot red flags for more serious conditions or illnesses, as well as when to refer to other healthcare providers.

Our clinical training courses are for every community pharmacist in England who wants to do more to help their patients.

Unlike our other CPCS workshops, Women's Health is just a single 2.5-hour session.

Paediatrics

Research suggests the number of small children and young people visiting Accident and Emergency has risen significantly over the last decade.

This course will teach you how to assess children with ailments such as abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhoea, and other common childhood conditions. It will teach you about paediatric physiology, treatments available, and how to undertake effective consultations with children. 

You'll also learn how to spot red flags for more serious conditions or illnesses, as well as when to refer to other healthcare providers.

Most diagnoses in children are made through history-taking and shared decision-making with their carer, so we'll give you a thorough grounding in observation and questioning skills, to assess children with common ailments.

Did you know that over 25% of A&E visits are for children? But it's estimated that 80% of them could have been treated by their GP or Community Pharmacist. Our Paediatrics CPCS Clinical Training Course will enable you to reduce some of the burden on your fellow healthcare professionals.

Course #2 - Dermatology

Sign up for our CPCS Clinical Training Course in dermatology, and you can help to treat the 21% of GP consultations that relate to skin problems.

This course teaches you how to assess and diagnose patients with common skin conditions. You'll learn how to recommend treatments, such as emollients, but also when to refer to other care providers.

With 80% of diagnoses made through history-taking, the course will give you a thorough grounding in observation and questioning skills, to assess patients with many different skin conditions.

Our programme was developed in collaboration with the British Association of Dermatologists, and our training team includes a Consultant Dermatologist and a GP with special interest in dermatology. They’ll teach you how to recognise different conditions, and spot more serious skin problems – or possible underlying conditions – to get the best possible outcomes for every patient.

You’ll learn the composition of the skin, different treatments for conditions, as well as when and how to signpost patients to other professionals.

About: I am a general dermatologist with an interest in paediatric dermatology working in the north of England.

Together with Dr Tamara Griffiths, I will be covering management of common dermatological conditions including eczema and acne and providing advice about sun-protection and skin cancer detection.
