Tell Us Your Views On The Rebalancing Medicines Legislation and Pharmacy Regulation Consultation

The Department of Health (DoH) is consulting on a defence for inadvertent dispensing errors in hospitals and other settings, bringing this into line with the changes already in place for community pharmacists. The proposals are designed to encourage reporting and learning from dispensing errors.

DoH is also consulting on changes to the roles of Responsible Pharmacists (RP) and Superintendent Pharmacists (SP). The changes are designed to strengthen the organisational governance of registered pharmacies and clarify the responsibilities and accountability of RP and SP roles. There are also proposals for taking RP and SP rule-making power out of legislation and Ministerial oversight, moving it instead to the pharmacy regulator.

This is part of the overall work of the Rebalancing board - to provide more flexibility for pharmacy practice in future.

RPS will be responding to this consultation and would very much like to the thoughts and opinions of our members.
