I am standing to ensure that we are all recognised as clinical and defined by what we deliver as opposed to where we practice. Help me to support you
I am have been qualified for over 10 years and have been passionate about supporting colleagues since representing my peers on boards as an undergraduate.
Throughout my career I have gained experience of working across various sectors of the profession. I started in hospital pharmacy and have worked in a clinical role for the pharmaceutical industry. The majority of my career has been in community pharmacy and primary care. I have managed community pharmacies in various settings, still regularly work as a locum. In primary care I have provided services direct to GP practices and lead medicines optimisation services for a CCG.
I currently work for NHS England, responsible for the provision and delivery of community pharmacy services across Greater Manchester. I also support development and commissioning of new services and integration of pharmacy into wider primary care. My current cross sector experience has given real insight into the threats affecting our profession and potential opportunities.
I have worked with NICE and the RPS to develop national guidance, including the medicines optimisation guiding principles. I am a lead of my Local Practice Forum, a RPS advocate and have experience of providing media services on medicines issues.
I am passionate about supporting colleagues.I am work as an accredited union representative with the PDA union, supporting member in employment disputes. i am also the elected communications officer, working on the national executive to develop national policy and work-streams in the members' interests. I am also a trustee of the Pharmacist Support charity working to develop strategy and policy to support those in greatest time of need.
I am an advocate for and champion our profession / the valuable roles pharmacists play, promoting our skills and expertise to health professionals, commissioners and the public. I have a clear understanding of emerging health and social care partnerships and new commissioning models. I am working to integrate pharmacy as a key part of the primary care offering for patients and embed active referral pathways into pharmacy services.
I have current experience of the significant threats and pressures facing us at the coal face and as a profession. I see the opportunities for us to develop and better use our skills to improve patient care and value for health and social care. It is crucial for us to develop beyond traditional roles, sectoral mind-sets and dispel incorrect perceptions. Community pharmacy is not a Government subsidised retail sector. Community pharmacists are not shampoo and sandwich retailers.
The RPS delivers a lot to support and develop our profession, it is imperative that it is the lead voice for pharmacy.
As an English Board member I will strive to free us from the threat of prosecution for genuine errors, only support changes to services and supervision which ensure pharmacists are kept at the heart of patient care. I will work to protect the invaluable community pharmacy network and support development of a fair pharmacy contract which is service not supply focused. I will support cross sector working, enabling the best use of all pharmacists’ skills. I will champion the profession with Government, health professionals and the public to ensure all pharmacists recognised as clinical and defined by what we deliver.
I will listen to your voice, only support RPS strategic plans represent the needs of the membership. I will ensure all levels of the membership are listened to and fight for the right to vote for student and pre-reg members.
I will support and work for you.
