Brexit update: President responds

Following last night's 'meaningful vote' in Parliament on the Brexit deal, RPS President Ash Soni said:

"We remain consistently focused on how pharmacists can provide the best care to patients during and beyond Brexit. Our exit from the EU has wide-ranging implications for medicine supply, science and research and the health and care workforce in the UK.

“We are continuing to talk to the Government about contingency planning, looking at measures to enable pharmacists to provide the best access to medicines in the event of potential shortages.

"We are very supportive of the plans to introduce the serious shortage protocol and will continue to work closely with DHSC, other pharmacy organisations, the medical royal colleges and those who represent non-medical prescribers to ensure pharmacists and their teams are supported to  deliver the best patient care."

“We understand how unsettling this situation is for our members and for the whole profession. We are closely monitoring the ever-changing picture in Parliament and will adapt our stance accordingly and in the best interests of patient care and the profession.”
