Join our 180th anniversary celebrations

This year we are marking our 180 year anniversary and we’re inviting you to join in our celebrations on 20 May.

We’ve been championing pharmacists and pharmacy since 1841 and are hugely proud of our history and the profession’s rich heritage.

Our fantastic Museum has been at the heart of our celebrations and contains many historical treasures. Created in 1842 to educate pharmacy students, today its collections cover all aspects of British pharmacy history from the 1400s to the present day.

To find out more, take a look at the extensive new exhibitions our team have created about the history of RPS and celebrating women in pharmacy. We’ve also initiated a project to put 2,000 items from the Museum collection online, making its important items much more accessible to everyone.

RPS Chief Executive Paul Bennett said:

“Pharmacy’s past is peppered with inspiring pioneers who helped create the profession we know today. I’m delighted we’ve been able to highlight the achievements of the men and women on whose shoulders we stand, and to share more of our amazing Museum collection.

“I’m proud too that we are a forward-looking, science-based profession with a bright future. Soon we’ll be putting our new 5-year plan for RPS into action and launching our inclusion and wellbeing pledge for the profession, to help create positive wellbeing in the workplace and a greater sense of belonging.”

On the day please share your birthday messages with us. We’ll also have a some quick quizzes for you about pharmacy history and familiar household objects invented by pharmacists, and will be joined by a very special guest.
