Oral retinoids and pregnancy prevention - what you need to know

Updated guidance for members

We’ve updated our pharmacy guide which covers safe prescribing, dispensing and counselling advice to protect all patients who use oral retinoids, including female patients who are at risk of pregnancy.

Oral retinoids mustn’t be used during pregnancy. They have a high risk of causing severe birth defects and miscarriage.

This is why oral retinoids have an associated Pregnancy Prevention Programme in place, which is supported by educational material for prescribers, pharmacists, and patients.

Our pharmacy guide on oral retinoids takes you through what you and your patient need to know, and how to provide safe treatment.

Update yourself today with this and our other pharmacy guides, exclusively for members. Just search by keyword for expert, up-to-date advice or call RPS Support directly on 0845 257 2570.
