RPS England Board meeting - January update

RPS England Board Chair Sandra Gidley comments on key outcomes

RPS England Board Chair Sandra Gidley comments on key outcomes from the January Board meeting.

“The Board looked ahead to priorities for next year and beyond, including how the profession can help deliver the aims of the new NHS Long-Term Plan, supporting people’s care in areas such as mental health and diabetes.

“We discussed the new GP contract announced yesterday, including the key role that pharmacists will play in new Primary Care Networks to enhance patient safety and help the NHS get the most from its spend on medicines. We will be engaging further with NHS England to ensure pharmacists can help shape local NHS plans and  contribute their clinical expertise across care settings.

“We also acknowledged the need for increased support for the health and wellbeing for pharmacists as they take on new and evolving roles. We will continue to discussing this important issue with NHS England and partners.

“The Board was updated on government preparations for Brexit, including contingency planning to support continued patient access to medicines. We discussed the continued uncertainty around the future of the Falsified Medicines Directive and welcomed the pragmatic approach to inspections set out by regulators.”
