RPS Scotland publishes response to the National Care Service consultation

We have submitted our response to the Scottish Government’s consultation on a new National Care Service (NCS) for Scotland. Alongside this we have also published a policy statement outlining our position, which you can read here.

Clare Morrison, RPS Director for Scotland, said: “Medicines are widely used in all care services and so it is vital that within the new National Care Service there is clarity over the safe prescribing, use and administration of medicines in care services.

“We want to see equity of access to high quality pharmaceutical care for every person in Scotland. The proposed new service provides an opportunity to do this, but it will only be achieved if pharmacists are involved at both the strategic level and patient facing level of this new service.

“Pharmacy is ready and willing to embrace the changes the new NCS will bring, although the need for adequate resourcing must be recognised from the outset.”
