RPS Welcomes Welsh Government investment in Community Pharmacy

A recent announcement by the Welsh Government to make an increase in community pharmacy funding of £1.4m in 2018-19 has been warmly welcomed by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Responding to the announcement, Suzanne Scott-Thomas, Chair of the RPS Welsh Pharmacy Board said: “We recognise that radical and sustainable transformation of care can only be achieved through investment in new and innovative services, above and beyond the existing allocation of resources. We are delighted that WG have chosen to invest in community pharmacy in Wales. This will support patient access to appropriate care in the community and make medicines use safer in Wales.”

Making the announcement in a written statement, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services, Vaughan Gething, gave his commitment that this additional investment would seek “to improve quality, medicines safety and the availability of new and innovative services from pharmacies and which take pressure off other parts of the NHS.”
