Take a look back at our sustainability blogs

At the start of September, we released our Declaration of Climate and Ecological Emergency.

As health professionals, climate change will fundamentally impact our roles. Our declaration calls on the pharmacy profession to help us make a real difference.

Throughout September we have been showcasing some of your innovative ideas and projects from across pharmacy in Great Britain; from managing wastewater in Scotland, to thinking about nitrous oxide in Wales, these blogs show what you can do to make a difference.

In England, Anna Murphy explains why we need your help for a collaborative approach to reduce the environmental impact of inhalers and improve inhaler technique in minimising the environmental impact of inhalers. Pharmacists can discuss the choice of inhalers with patients and carers, as well as educating the wider healthcare team on choosing inhalers with less environmental impact.

In Scotland, Sharon Pfleger talks about the threat of the development of antimicrobial resistance and why looking at the hospital’s wastewater output was so important to NHS Highland in managing AMR and wastewater in hospitals. She wants to continue getting the message across that as a population we need to use medicines responsibly and think about our environment to get the best results for our health and our planet’ s health.

And in Wales, we had Green with envy: environmental sustainability by Yasmina Hamdouai. Yasmina tells about switching to sevoflurane, reducing nitorus oxide wastage and Green Health Wales. Green Health Wales envisions Green Groups across the country sharing good practice, but they need you to get involved to make it happen
