Take part in COVID-19 vaccine safety study

Have you had the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine? Pharmacy teams are being asked to participate in an online questionnaire study that will help assess the extent of side effects from the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine and how quickly they are recognised and acted upon.

Conducted by the Drug Safety Research Unit (DSRU), the study will enrol at least 10,000 participants, which will include healthcare professionals and members of the public, who will be contacted at regular intervals after receiving the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.

Participants will be asked questions regarding whether they are experiencing any possible side effects and symptoms following the vaccination.

It is expected that this proactive approach, sourcing information directly from vaccines, will offer quicker and more thorough insight into any side effects or safety issues that arise with COVID-19 vaccines, compared with other vaccine safety monitoring methods.

The DSRU is recruiting people from the Phase I vaccination group, which includes all those aged over 50, health and social care workers and people who are clinically extremely vulnerable.

The unit is also keen to get participants from all four UK nations to take part, whether or not they’ve experienced any symptoms after vaccination.

You can register your interest in taking part in the study prior to receiving the vaccine or with 28 days of having the jab.
