The new RPS MEP is out today

UPDATE: Medicines, Ethics and Practice Edition 45 was published in July 2022.

----

Edition 44 of RPS Medicines, Ethics and Practice is now available, with new sections responding to current events alongside essential guidance to help pharmacists resolve everyday issues and practice confidently.

Changes this year

This year’s MEP includes new information on how changes following Brexit impact on practice - such as what to do if presented with a prescription from Europe.

A new ‘being culturally informed’ section builds on RPS’ work around inclusion and diversity and the section on support for the wellbeing of pharmacy staff has been extended.

There’s also information on working during a pandemic such as working outside your scope or specialty.

Every year this go-to guide for good practice evolves and develops with the support and collaboration of the MEP advisory panel and through feedback received from members.

Most popular sections

From controlled drugs to prescription issues, the MEP supports practice, learning and CPD. Key sections include:

  • Controlled drugs - prescription requirements, appropriate date, destruction and recording keeping
  • General prescription requirements including prescriber types and prescribing restrictions
  • Emergency supply criteria
  • Wholesale issues including licence requirements, signed orders and record keeping
  • Veterinary medicines, including record keeping and the veterinary Cascade.

Sonia Garner, MEP editor and RPS Professional Standards Advisor, said: “The MEP remains extremely popular and supports pharmacy students’ learning, as well as enabling pharmacists to practise confidently and professionally.

“We thank everyone who has helped to compile this edition of the MEP, and those who have provided expert advice and information during its preparation.”

MEP was not published in 2020 due to the pressures of the pandemic.

All members get access to MEP online and foundation trainees and specific members also get sent a print copy. It’s also available from the Pharmaceutical Press for £55.
