We talk to BBC Radio 4 about acute medicine shortages

RPS President Ash Soni and practice pharmacist Ben Merriman were interviewed on BBC Radio 4’s Inside Health last night about the growing increase in medicine shortages.

Highlighting from practical experience their difficulties with obtaining medicines, Ash and Ben talked about the problems shortages pose for patients, pharmacists and GPs, and outlined the reasons behind them.  Issues with reimbursement and the benefits of the upcoming serious shortage protocol, which will enable pharmacists to dispense in line with a protocol rather than against a prescription, (without going back to the prescriber), were also discussed.
