Epanutin (phenytoin) 30mg/5ml oral suspension -supply disruption

The Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC) has issued a supply disruption alert for Epanutin (phenytoin) 30mg/5ml oral suspension.  

 

There is a global short-term supply issue affecting Epanutin suspension due to global manufacturing delays. Pfizer will be out of stock of Epanutin (phenytoin) 30mg/5ml oral suspension from the week commencing 29th October until early December 2018. Pfizer are the sole licensed UK supplier of this product.  

 

This alert provides advice for all healthcare professionals who prescribe, dispense or administer Epanutin oral suspension. The alert also provides background, advice on switching patients, dose equivalence and conversion, alternative formulations (including information on licensed preparation and unlicensed preparations) and monitoring patients after switching. The alert makes reference to unlicensed preparations from Canada and the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) and product monograph for these can also be found in the alert.
