Support Alert

NHS England – Junior Epipen shortage

NHS England has issued a letter for parents and guardians of children who use Epipen Junior. This letter will be shared through GPs. The supply problem is expected to last several months. Pharmacists can use the letter to support patients and make them aware of the advice.

The letter includes advice on:
•    Avoiding things the child is allergic to
•    Administration of adrenaline in a severe allergic or anaphylactic reaction
•    If the adrenaline pen is out-of-date and they have been unable to get a new one
•    Other adrenaline pens and where to find information on these
•    The weight of the child and when the GP should give the 300mcg adrenaline pen
