NHS Improvement memo – Adrenaline for anaphylaxis kits

NHS Improvement has published a memo to remind all healthcare professionals providing services where anaphylaxis may be required, that they should be competent to draw up and administer adrenaline from ampoules with a normal syringe and needle. 

Medicines, Ethics and Practice 42 (MEP) has details on the administration of adrenaline in an emergency on page 119 (member log in required). 

The NHS Improvement memo and the MEP refer to the Green Book and the Resus Council for further advice for healthcare professionals on the use of adrenaline in response to anaphylaxis.

The Department of Health and Social Care and Medicines Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) recently issued a Supply Disruption Alert concerning the availability of Epipen and Epipen Junior.
