RPS Research Fellows Forum

“Pharmacy research: addressing challenges to establish successful research careers”

Tuesday 10 October 2017, 12.30-5pm, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, London

The RPS Research Fellows Forum is designed to facilitate dialogue about research and career progression within the pharmacy and pharmaceutical sectors.

The forum will bring together current and prospective research-active peers for a discussion of the challenges currently faced by pharmacists and pharmacy professionals. We particularly welcome early career researchers and those engaged in research supported by funding programmes from UK Research Councils, NIHR, Pharmacy Research UK or other institutions or employers.

The objective of the forum is to build a community of fellows to enable peer-to-peer networking and support. Through the forum, we seek to gain an understanding of the current climate in research, explore the barriers and opportunities to establishing research careers, and how the RPS can further support members and the wider workforce. Discussions will be framed by a series of short talks and workshops with an opportunity for participants to showcase their research achievements.

Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Present their research achievements
  • Share best practice in developing research & fellowships
  • Discuss mentoring in research
  • Identify barriers to research career pathways
  • Broaden their network of contacts
  • Shape RPS work plans for supporting research active professionals

If you would like to attend the RPS Research Fellows Forum, please register your interest via the survey (registration for RPS Research Fellows Forum 2017 are now closed; further details to follow). View programme.

What will happen during the event? What will happen during the event?

We anticipate that this Forum will be the start of an open and ongoing dialogue about research and career progression within the pharmacy and pharmaceutical sectors and how the RPS can best support you and your research. We will be discussing research opportunities, barriers and challenges particularly faced by pharmacists and/or in pharmacy. We are also planning to open the floor to those wishing to present their personal accounts of research career progression, achievements and challenges in a PechaKucha presentation format (1 PowerPoint slide for 1 minute). View programme.

What will be the outcome of the event? What will be the outcome of the event?

Feedback from the forum will be used to outline perceptions of the current research landscape within pharmacy and the wider healthcare context. We plan to share individual accounts of exemplar careers in science and research to help promote research as a professional pathway, and hope that forum participants will take this opportunity to extend their network of research contacts. Outputs from the event, including suggestions for future initiatives, will inform the advancement of RPS research support activities and resources.
