Local pupils visit to hear about science careers

Thirty students in year 12 from Swanlea School visited our London offices for a day last week, to discover what working in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects is really like. As part of the Society’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, the local Tower Hamlets students had the opportunity to question RPS staff about their background, career path and personal stories.

The visit was kept light-hearted, using a personal rather than a corporate approach. The students played games to demonstrate how jobs or professions are not defined by age, sex or race, met RPS staff and listened to speakers who inspired the visiting students with personal stories of achieving their career goals and good advice for the future.

Engaging with local people to promote good career choices and pharmacy is important to us. Following this successful day we are hoping to run many more such events.
