World Antimicrobial Awareness Week

Fighting Antibiotic Resistance

18-24 November 2022

World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is an annual global campaign coordinated by WHO to increase awareness of antimicrobial resistance as a global problem, and to promote best practices among the public, health workers and policy-makers to reduce its spread.

RPS will be joining healthcare organisations around the world in supporting World Antimicrobial Awareness Week from 18-24 November 2022.

The UK national resources for WAAW are available via:

How else do we support Antimicrobial Stewardship?

Our Antimicrobial Expert Advisory Group works throughout the year advising on resistance, infection prevention and management, and any other issues that might affect the profession and the public.

The group is also part of the Ambassadors Pilot WAAW national planning group and UK Health Security Agency’s Antibiotic Guardian Schools' Ambassadors Pilot, which encourages pharmacists to go into schools to provide education to pupils on antibiotic resistance using the e-bug programme.

You can also sign up to become an antibiotic guardian and choose your pledge to make better use of antibiotics.
