RPS in Mersey, Cheshire and Isle of Man Welcome to the home of the RPS in Mersey, Cheshire and Isle of Man
Hi, I'm Abi and I'm the lead for RPS in Mersey, Cheshire and the Isle of Man

Abi Meikle-Roche

RPS in Mersey, Cheshire and Isle of Man gives you the chance to develop and support fellow pharmacists who live and work nearby, as well as an opportunity to build a professional network.

RPS In Your Area provides a chance for face-to-face meetings outside of a work environment, raising the profile of pharmacy with a variety of groups, organisations and individuals.

What we do

We aim to deliver events and support opportunities that meet the needs of all our members, from all professional backgrounds.

We usually hold our events in a city central location, but often move to other venues to allow members from all areas of Mersey, Cheshire and Isle of Man to get involved.

Over the past 12 months, our events have covered topics including:

  • Mental Health
  • Sepsis
  • Diabetes
  • Revalidation
  • Patient Safety.
  • Resilience and well being

We love working with other pharmacy organisations and hold regular collaborative events with the Centre for Postgraduate Pharmacy Education (CPPE).  Many of our events are delivered with expert speakers from across the MDT, making our sessions a truly enriching experience.

Who we are

RPS in Mersey, Cheshire and Isle of Man is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers and all have one thing in common; they all want to put pharmacy on the forefront of healthcare.

Members of our group include:

  • Abigayle Meikle

I've recently been appointed as Chair of the ‘RPS in Mersey, Cheshire & Isle of Man’ local group in the summer 2019. My professional background is as a paediatric pharmacist with an interest in medication safety.   I have recently transitioned to adult secondary care practice as lead for clinical education – helping to teach good prescribing principles to the next generation of doctors! I have long believed that local groups are key to engaging the profession in a personal capacity; whether that be the events hosted or to see network links build between those in attendance helping to inspire future work. In my personal life I am an avid reader, netball player and passionate about my Westie, Maisie!

  • Alice Williams

My role as part of the RPS in Mersey, Cheshire and Isle of Man is to help organise events and liaise with potential speakers, as well as generally supporting the group where I can. I am a newly qualified pharmacist working in hospital pharmacy. I have chosen to specialise in mental health, as its something that has always interested me since starting my MPharm. It's really rewarding for me, as Pharmacy is an integral part of the MDT and our input is really valued within the team. I like to pick up locum shifts at least once a month, of which my favourite part has to be the consultations with patients - you don't know who or what will come through that door. In my free time, I like to jump on my road bike and cycle around, mostly to the pub but at least I earn that glass of fizz!

  • Kat Heine

I have been a Hospital Pharmacist since 2015, but enjoy regular community locum work. I'm unsure about a specialty just yet but enjoy getting involved in medical education.

  • Rachel Cottier

I'm a newly qualified pharmacist after completing my pre-reg this year in hospital and am now starting my role as a clinical rotational pharmacist at the Countess of Chester Hospital. I am interested in promoting RPS Local events to pre-registration and newly qualified pharmacists to provide the support needed during this time, through social media platforms.  I found the talks within the group a great way to expand my knowledge in preparation for the exam and for my future career. It was also an ideal way to network with other pharmacists in different sectors of pharmacy with varied experience.
