COVID-19 (coronavirus): guidance & NHS advice on use of ibuprofen

Public Health England has issued guidance on social distancing and for vulnerable people.

The Public Health England guidance on social distancing for everyone in the UK and protecting older people and vulnerable adults can be accessed here and on our novel coronavirus hub page.

Updated advice from the NHS – Ibuprofen & Coronavirus (COVID 19)

The NHS has issued advice for the public on the use of ibuprofen to treat coronavirus symptoms.

There is currently no strong evidence that ibuprofen can make coronavirus (COVID-19) worse.

But until we have more information, take paracetamol to treat the symptoms of coronavirus, unless your doctor has told you paracetamol is not suitable for you.

If you are already taking ibuprofen or another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) on the advice of a doctor, do not stop taking it without checking first.

This information can be found on the NHS website

The RPS has a dedicate hub for all our Coronavirus (COVID-19) information - it can be found here.

As we brace for a potential second wave of coronavirus, we know that pharmacy will be at the forefront of delivering healthcare.

Whether it’s flu vaccinations, dealing with local lockdowns or getting ready to fight a second wave, we need decisions and assurances from the Government now. We must make sure pharmacists get enough supplies of PPE and rapid access to testing in all care settings.
