RPS welcomes approval of new Moderna vaccine

Following the news that the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has approved a third COVID-19 vaccine called Moderna for use in the UK, RPS Chief Scientist Gino Martini said:

“This is welcome news in the fight against COVID-19.

“Pharmacists have been at the forefront of COVID-19 vaccinations from the outset, working across hospitals and primary care and using their expertise in medicines to ensure patients get the vaccine safely.

“As more vaccines are approved, we look forward to the further expansion of the vaccination programme and drawing on the whole of the pharmacy workforce to support the nation’s health.

“Making this a success will depend on ensuring adequate supplies of vaccines and clinical consumables, a robust national booking system for patients, and making this accessible for all our communities.”
